4 Summer Girls Day Ideas (& What to Wear!)

By Jacqueline Burke
I recently went to Maine for a few days to visit family and friends. The trip was so nice, I love getting away from city life a few times a year and Maine is especially beautiful in the summer.
-
While there I went on a couple lunch dates with girlfriends but the weather was so beautiful I really wanted to do something besides sit in a restaurant. I decided to put together a picnic in the park. It was so relaxing and nice that I think we're going to make it a tradition! It was also wayyy more affordable that going to a restaurant for lunch.
-
My picnic inspired me to think of a few other fun activities for a warm summer day besides just going to brunch.
-
1) Picnic in the Park
-
Find some shade, spread out a blanket or post up at a picnic table and relax! A picnic in the park with a DIY charcuterie board and some rose is the perfect way to spend an afternoon.
-
What to Wear:
Put on something comfortable and cute that you don't mind wearing in the grass.  My pick is a casual romper, some sandals that you can kick off and walk around barefoot, and some minimal earrings, and a hat to keep the sun off your face.

2) Browse a Flea Market
-
Flea markets are a treasure trove of interesting items. You can find beautiful antique furniture, vintage clothes and books, and unique artwork. Spending a day scouring a flea market with friends is such a great way to hear interesting stories from vendors and find one of a kind pieces that will always feel special to you.
-
What to Wear:
A maxi dress with comfortable flats and a stylish backpack are perfect for a day at the flea market. A light maxi dress will keep you cool and the backpack will hold any small items you find during the day. Complete your outfit with some asymmetrical earrings that feel just unique enough for a day at the flea market.

3) See a Drive-In Movie
-
There is something so nostalgic about going to a drive-in movie theater.  You instantly feel like a kid again. Seeing the same movie in an indoor theater would probably seem boring, but watching it at a drive-in makes it feel fun and different. If you're looking for something fun to do on a summer evening, see if there is a drive-in movie theater close by. Don't forget to pack a blanket, snacks, and bug spray if you're in the north east.

What to Wear:
For a drive in movie you want to be wear something comfortable and breathable that will also keep you warm after the sun goes down. A matching lounge set is the perfect outfit. A matching set also looks chic, but is as comfortable as wearing pajamas.

4) Visit a Local Town
-
Chances are, within two hours of you there is a small, local town with a cute downtown scene that you've never visited before. When I was home, I drove to Bar Harbor for the day. I've been to Bar Harbor hundreds of times, but every time feels magical. It is one of the most beautiful locations on earth, and even though it's only an hour from where I grew up, it always feels like a vacation.  Towns like this, with a main street, shops, and cute cafes, are so fun to explore with some friends.

What to Wear:
I don't care what anyone says, I love the ugly sneaker trend and I think they are perfect for a day exploring a small town. They are super comfortable and look really chic with shorts and a cute blouse. Top off your outfit with a cross body bag, gold jewelry, and some cute sunglasses and you'll look great all day.
